Dog wipes for body odor: deodorizing picks between baths
For dog wipes for body odor without added perfume, start with TropiClean's hypoallergenic wipe. The maker says it is fragrance-free, for dogs and cats, and sells it as a deodorizer. If you like a fresh scent, TropiClean's Berry + Coconut is the scented pick. Neither fixes a smell that keeps coming back. That one usually points to the ears, mouth, anal glands or skin, and needs a vet.

Our picks for body odor
Fragrance-free first. A scented wipe masks odor and leaves a dog that smells like the wipe. A fragrance-free wipe cleans and leaves a dog that smells like a clean dog. Pick by whether you or your dog mind added scent.
TropiClean's hypoallergenic wipe is the all-round pick. Neither TropiClean maker page publishes a sheet size, so we can't compare on size. If you want 8 x 8 in. sheets, take Earth Rated Unscented instead. It isn't marketed as a deodorizer, but it cleans without scent. The best wipes for dogs page has the all-round view of dog cleaning wipes and grooming wipes.
What deodorizing wipes do
A deodorizing wipe, a kind of dog body wipe, usually combines a mild cleanser to lift oils and dirt, moisture to pick up debris, and either a fragrance or an odor-binding ingredient. Of the six wipes here, three add fragrance and three don't. So "deodorizing" can mean cleaning, masking or both.
A wipe can't explain a smell, and it doesn't rinse the coat the way a bath does.
Dog wipes instead of a bath
This is the waterless route for smelly dogs, and it works for some jobs.
- Light, recent smell. After a walk, after sleeping on a smelly bed, after a rainy day. Wipe the chest, belly, paws and rear end (dog butt wipes covers that last one).
- A dog that hates baths. Wipes skip the tub and the dryer.
- Travel and camping. A tub in the trunk beats a hose.
It doesn't work for caked mud, anything sticky or toxic on the coat, or a smell with a medical cause. If your dog rolled in something, give it a bath. Nothing we read sets a frequency, so go by the dog.
Choosing: scent, sheet size and cats
Named oils. "Fragrance" on a label can hide a mix, possibly including essential oils. Where the label names the oil, you can look it up.
Sheet size. A bigger sheet helps on a body wipe-down. Most wipes here have no published sheet size.
Alcohol. Earth Rated and Earthbath state alcohol-free; the TropiClean and Petkin pages here give no alcohol status. Check the pack if your dog has dry skin.
Cats. Cats groom themselves, so anything on a shared bed or on a dog they nuzzle can end up in their mouth. VCA's page on essential oil poisoning in cats says cats are especially sensitive to essential oils. Our ingredient reference rates tea tree, peppermint and citrus oils high-risk for cats, and eucalyptus and lavender oil moderate. "Fragrance" or "parfum" with no named oil is an unknown (see fragrance).
A scented wipe won't necessarily hurt a cat, and the sources give no safe level. A fragrance-free wipe carries less uncertainty in a cat home. The cat safety guide goes deeper.
Scented dog wipes
TropiClean Berry + Coconut suits a fresh scent after mud. The maker markets it as a "tushy and paw" wipe for dogs and cats, with aloe, ceramide and a saccharomyces ferment filtrate. The ingredient list ends with berry and coconut fragrance. The maker doesn't publish sheet size or minimum age.
TropiClean
TropiClean Berry + Coconut Tushy & Paw Wipes, 100ct
Best for scented muddy-day cleanup and odor freshening
Skip if you want fragrance-free

Petkin Big n' Thick suits a home with dogs and cats that wants a generic scent. The maker lists an unnamed "deodorizing fragrance", plus oat extract, aloe and vitamin E, and says the wipes are safe for the face, ears and eye area and for pets that lick. It publishes no sheet size and no full list. A named scent would help.
Petkin
Petkin Big n' Thick Natural Pet Wipes (100ct)
Best for thick, larger sheets for general cleanup in homes with both dogs and cats

Earth Rated Lavender suits a light lavender smell. The maker's published ingredient list ends with lavender oil, and it says the wipes are free from alcohol and parabens. The sheet is 8 x 8 in. and the minimum age is 8 weeks. ASPCA lists lavender as toxic to dogs and cats when eaten, though that concerns the plant. The maker says some cat owners use these wipes and to consult a vet for cats, so skip the lavender one if your cat grooms heavily or your dog is oil-sensitive.

When a smell means a vet visit
A wipe is a cosmetic fix. These smells have medical causes.
- Ears. VCA lists a bad odor among the signs of ear infection in dogs. See ear wipes for what is safe outside a vet visit.
- Mouth. Bad breath is common in dental disease, per VCA. A wipe on the coat does nothing for it, and teeth have their own product type in dog dental wipes.
- Rear end. VCA's page on anal sac disease lists scooting as an early sign. It also says leaking fluid can leave an unpleasant lingering odor in the home.
- Skin and paws. A strong yeasty or musty smell, with licking, redness or discharge, can mean yeast dermatitis. A mild corn-chip smell on paws is common, as the paw guide explains.
If a smell returns within days of wiping, treat it as a symptom. If the dog also scratches, scoots, shakes its head or turns lethargic, call your vet. Skip these wipes if the skin is sensitive and you don't know the trigger (start with the hypoallergenic guide), if you want a medicated effect (wipes for yeast), or if a cat shares the sofa and the wipe lists a named essential oil.
What counts as a deodorizing wipe here
Each pick has a readable maker page and mentions deodorizing, odor control or freshening, or comes from an everyday line that does. Products known only from retailer listings are out. We have not tested any wipe and use no prices or ratings. "Best" means a match between a label and a job. Maker pages checked 2026-10-15. Formulas change, so confirm on the pack. Frequently asked questions
Can dog wipes replace a bath?
For a light surface refresh, yes. Wipes lift dirt and some odor from the coat, but they don't rinse. For heavy mud, a greasy coat or a skin problem, a bath (or a vet-recommended shampoo) does the job a wipe can't. This is the idea behind a waterless bath for dogs.
What are the best wipes for smelly dogs?
The one that matches your tolerance for scent. TropiClean's Berry + Coconut is scented. TropiClean's hypoallergenic wipe is fragrance-free and sold as a deodorizer. If the smell returns within a day or two, look for a cause (see the vet section below) instead of buying stronger wipes.
Why does my dog still smell after wiping?
A wipe cleans the surface. A smell that keeps coming back can come from the ears, mouth, anal glands or a skin problem such as yeast. VCA lists a bad odor among ear infection signs, bad breath among dental disease signs, and scooting as an early anal sac sign.
Do dog wipes for urine smell work?
A wipe can clean urine from the coat where it got wet and lift some odor. It does not rinse. If the smell keeps coming back, ask your vet before buying stronger wipes.
Are deodorizing dog wipes safe for dogs?
Most are intended for external use. Check for alcohol and essential oils, and remember that dogs lick their coats. Our ingredient reference gives the sourced detail for each.
Can I use deodorizing dog wipes on cats?
Only if the label says so. Where it does, the maker usually says dogs and cats. Scented wipes with citrus, tea tree, peppermint, lavender or eucalyptus oils are the ones to avoid around cats. See are dog wipes safe for cats.
What are the best dog grooming wipes?
Grooming wipes are pre-moistened sheets with a mild cleanser, used on the coat, paws, rear end and face between baths. Some add scent. They are not medicated, and they are the same category as most everyday dog wipes. The all-round pick and the full type list are on best wipes for dogs.
