Best cat wipes: cat-labeled picks and what to check first
The best cat wipes are labeled for cats, free of fragrance, essential oils, alcohol and medicated actives, and used only on the coat. Our top pick is Earthbath's Hypo-Allergenic Grooming Wipes for Cats: the maker page says it is for cats and kittens over 6 weeks, and it is fragrance-free. It is the best documented of the cat wipes here, not a risk-free one, because it lists aloe and chamomile, which the ASPCA lists as toxic to cats as plants (details below). Whatever you wipe onto the coat gets licked off.

Not veterinary advice. This page has not been reviewed by a veterinarian; it summarizes published veterinary sources, linked in the text. If your pet has a skin problem, a wound, or symptoms that do not clear up, talk to your vet.
These are also sold as kitty wipes or pet wipes for cats. If you are asking whether a dog wipe will do, read our guide to dog wipes and cats and the pet wipe safety guide first.
Why cats are different from dogs
Cats groom constantly, so a wipe is also something swallowed. VCA says the skin may absorb a toxin and a cat can also swallow it when grooming its fur. The MSD Veterinary Manual says cats lack the enzyme glucuronyl transferase, which makes them especially sensitive to phenols and some essential oils, and calls tea tree oil the most commonly reported essential oil intoxicant in pets.
Tea tree oil is the best documented problem. We also skip Eucalyptus oil, Peppermint oil / menthol, Citrus oils (orange, lemon, lime, d-limonene) and Lavender / lavender oil, and any wipe where Fragrance (parfum) hides the mix. For eucalyptus and lavender our reference says moderate: sources list the plants as toxic to cats but give no skin or licking data for wipes. Alcohol (ethanol / isopropyl alcohol), Benzalkonium chloride and Salicylic acid are also on the check list. The safety guide goes through each one, and the ingredient reference has the sources and says where they are thin.
When a grooming wipe helps a cat
Dust, dirt and light dander
For a cat that has been in a dusty closet or rolled outdoors, a damp wipe along the coat can take off surface dirt. Burt's Bees' cat wipes are sold as dander-reducing; we found no evidence on how much dander a wipe removes, so read it as a label claim.
Rear-end and litter mishaps
A long-haired cat with a soiled back end is a clear use. Earthbath lists the rear end among the areas for its cat wipes. If the mess comes with loose stool, ask a vet; that is a health symptom as well as a cleanup job.
Older cats who can't reach everywhere
VCA says reduced grooming is one of the most common pain-related changes in older cats, that spinal arthritis makes grooming the body and especially the hind end difficult, and that osteoarthritis affects more than 90% of cats aged 10 and over. Ungroomed areas become matted. A wipe on the hind end can help in the short term, but the cat needs a vet for the pain, and VCA advises an appointment if you see matted hair or flaky skin.
Eyes and ears
Cats get tear residue and wax too, and those products have their own page: cat ear and eye wipes. Ask a vet before using any eye product on a cat. Zymox's ear wipe is the one outer-ear pick below. The dog versions are in dog ear wipes and dog eye wipes.
Safe wipes for cats: what to look for on the label
- The pack names cats, and kittens if yours is young. That is "Cats: OK per label" on our cards. "Pets" alone, or a name or retailer title with no label read, shows as "Cats: check the label", and dogs-only packs are "Cats: not for cats."
- Fragrance-free or unscented, with no essential oils in the ingredients.
- No alcohol, benzalkonium chloride or medicated active unless your vet prescribed it.
- A readable full ingredient list. Several wipes below lack one, so we mark them thin.
- Directions that match yours. Burt's Bees' cat wipes directions, as retailers list them, say to wipe from the back of the ears to the tail and avoid the eyes.
Two preservatives deserve a note. Phenoxyethanol is in the Earthbath and Burt's Bees cat wipes as listed. Our reference rates Phenoxyethanol unknown for cats: we found no cat-specific source either way, and we do not assume MSD's phenol warning applies to it. Sodium benzoate / benzoic acid / potassium sorbate are another open question; the sources describe high-dose feeding, not wipes.
Aloe and chamomile need the same caution. The ASPCA lists both plants as toxic to cats, and our ingredient table rates both moderate for cats because no source gives a safe level in a wipe. Earthbath and TropiClean use them. If your cat licks its coat a lot, or has ever reacted to a plant-based product, ask a vet before choosing either.
What we included and how thin the data is
We follow how we research: label and maker data, no hands-on testing. We included wipes named for cats and wipes named for dogs and cats, and left out dogs-only wipes. Earthbath, TropiClean's dog-and-cat wipes, Petkin and Zymox come from maker pages. Burt's Bees comes from retailer pages because its own page could not be fetched, the TropiClean cat-wipe page returned an error and Vetnique's maker page could not be read, so those three are marked thin and show "Cats: check the label". We left out Wahl's Refresh cat wipes: the maker page could not be read, and the coconut lime verbena scent adds fragrance.

Best cat wipes by situation
Best overall: Earthbath Hypo-Allergenic Grooming Wipes for Cats
Per the maker page: for cats and kittens over 6 weeks, fragrance-free, plant-based, 100 count, with a note to avoid eye contact and to stop if irritation develops. The ingredient list includes aloe leaf juice, chamomile and awapuhi extracts, vitamin E, phenoxyethanol and avocado and sunflower seed oils. We pick it for the clear cat labeling and fragrance-free formula, with the aloe, chamomile and phenoxyethanol caveats above. "Hypoallergenic" is not a regulated term, and the maker advises asking your vet before using a new product on pets with sensitivities.
Earthbath
Earthbath Hypo-Allergenic Grooming Wipes for Cats, Fragrance Free
Best for fragrance-free wipe-downs for cats with sensitive skin, including the rear end
Skip if your cat is sensitive to chamomile or phenoxyethanol

Best fragrance-free wipe for a home with a dog and a cat: TropiClean Hypoallergenic Pet Wipes
The maker says these are for dogs and cats, fragrance free, and mild enough for puppies and kittens (no age stated). The maker's key ingredients are gluconolactone, aloe extract, chamomile extract and a mild cleanser, plus a preservative it does not name. The maker does not give the alcohol status, sheet size or material. Aloe and chamomile carry the same caution as in the Earthbath wipe.
TropiClean
TropiClean Hypoallergenic Pet Wipes, Fragrance Free, 100ct
Best for routine deodorizing wipe-downs with a hypoallergenic, fragrance-free formula
Skip if you avoid botanical extracts like lavender or tea tree

Best for a quick dust-and-dander wipe-down: Burt's Bees for Cats Dander Reducing Wipes
These are sold for cats ("Cats: check the label", since we read only retailer pages) and use colloidal oat flour, honey and coco betaine, per retailer lists that disagree on whether aloe powder is included, so check the pack. We could not read Burt's Bees' own page, and the wipe size is unknown. Skip it if your cat reacts to honey, oat or phenoxyethanol. Burt's Bees' dog wipes are a separate product for dogs.
Burt's Bees
Burt's Bees for Cats Dander Reducing Wipes with Colloidal Oat Flour
Best for light dander and dust wipe-downs on cats that tolerate being handled
Skip if you need a medicated wipe or your cat reacts to honey, oat or phenoxyethanol
Source: retailer listings; we could not read a maker page, checked 2026-10-15.
Scented option for a dog-and-cat home: Petkin Big n' Thick Natural Pet Wipes
The maker calls them pet wipes, and retailers list them for dogs and cats, so the stamp is "Cats: check the label". The maker lists a gentle cleanser, organic oat extract, aloe vera and vitamin E, says no parabens or sulfates, and says the wipes are safe for the face, ears, eye area and pets that lick. The scent is a deodorizing fragrance the maker does not specify, which is the main reason to pass if you are trying to avoid essential-oil exposure. The maker page gives no sheet size or full ingredient list.
Petkin
Petkin Big n' Thick Natural Pet Wipes (100ct)
Best for thick, larger sheets for general cleanup in homes with both dogs and cats

Thin data, unscented: Vetnique Furbliss Unscented Pet Wipes (dog and cat)
Labeled for dogs and cats by its product title and sold unscented, with aloe vera and vitamin E. We could not read the maker page, so we have no full ingredient list, sheet size or origin. If you need a full list, pick another.
Vetnique Labs
Vetnique Labs Furbliss Unscented Hypoallergenic Paw & Body Wipes for Dogs & Cats
Best for an unscented shared wipe for households with both a dog and a cat
Skip if you want a published full ingredient list before buying
Source: retailer listings; we could not read a maker page, checked 2026-10-15.
Thin data, cat-named line: TropiClean Hypoallergenic Cat Wipes
This cat-named wipe comes in a 100 count. A search summary of the maker listing mentions water, gluconolactone, aloe, chamomile, a mild cleanser and a preservative, but the maker URL returned an error, so the list is unverified. TropiClean's dog and cat version above is better documented.
TropiClean
TropiClean Hypoallergenic Cat Wipes
Best for everyday cat wipe-downs from a brand with a cat-named line
Skip if you need a verified full ingredient list before buying

Best for outer-ear upkeep on a cat: Zymox Advanced Enzymatic Ear Wipes
The maker page lists fragrance-free, dye-free, pre-moistened wipes (100) for dogs, puppies, cats and kittens, with lysozyme, lactoferrin and lactoperoxidase. It contains benzyl alcohol and PEG-75 lanolin. The maker says it is not a treatment for an active ear infection, so a cat with a smelly or painful ear needs a vet. Use it on the outer ear only and keep it out of the ear canal. More options are on cat ear and eye wipes.
Zymox (Pet King Brands)
ZYMOX Advanced Enzymatic Ear Wipes
Best for gentle enzymatic outer-ear cleaning for waxy, smelly ears without fragrance or dyes
Skip if ear is painful, discharging or you suspect infection or a perforated eardrum (see a vet); lanolin sensitivity

How to wipe a cat that hates it
These are practical suggestions from us, not study results.
- Pick a calm moment, such as after a meal or when the cat is already settled on a lap or blanket.
- Start on the back and shoulders, where most cats tolerate touch, and wipe in the direction the fur grows.
- Use one wipe, moist rather than dripping. A soaked coat gives the cat more to lick.
- Keep it away from the face unless the wipe is made for it. Burt's Bees' cat wipes directions, as retailers list them, say to avoid the eyes.
- Stop when the cat's tail lashes or ears flatten. Two short sessions beat one struggle.
- Let the fur dry before the cat settles down to groom, and watch for drooling or vomiting. If you see them, call your vet or a poison line.
- If your cat fights every attempt, or suddenly dislikes being touched, pain is one possible reason, so mention it to your vet.
When a wipe is not the answer
A wipe is for light cleaning on healthy skin. Call the vet for red, scabby or hairless patches, constant itching, matted hair, a cat that suddenly stops grooming, or chin acne, which MSD lists among the conditions linked to skin infection in cats. If your cat licked a lot of a wipe or chewed one, or drools, vomits or seems wobbly afterward, call your vet or a poison line (ASPCA: (888) 426-4435). This page is not veterinary advice. For flea problems, ask about flea control rather than looking for a wipe.
Where the cat claims come from
Frequently asked questions
Are cat wipes safe?
Wipes labeled for cats and used on the coat are the safer choice, but no wipe is guaranteed safe. Cats lick their fur, so the ingredient list matters. Each ingredient is explained in our guide to dog wipes and cats.
Do cats need wipes at all?
Healthy cats groom themselves. Wipes help with a specific job: a messy rear end, dust or dirt on the coat, or a cat that cannot reach parts of its body. VCA lists reduced grooming among the pain-related changes in older cats, so a cat that stops grooming should see a vet.
Can I use baby wipes on a cat?
We would not. Baby wipes are not made for cats, many contain fragrance or preservatives, and a cat will lick the residue. The dog version of this question is in can you use baby wipes on dogs. For a cat, use a cat-labeled wipe instead.
Can cat wipes get rid of fleas?
No. None of the wipes here lists a flea-control active, and Petkin's maker notes its wipes will not remove spot-on flea treatments. Ask a vet about flea control.
Are there wipes made for a cat's ears and eyes?
A few, and they need more care than coat wipes. See cat ear and eye wipes. Zymox's maker says its ear wipes are for cats and kittens.
Can I use wipes on a kitten?
Pick a pack that names kittens and follow its age. Earthbath's maker page says its cat wipes are for cats and kittens over 6 weeks. TropiClean's maker says its hypoallergenic wipes are mild enough for puppies and kittens but states no age. For anything younger, ask a vet.
Are there pet wipes for cats with allergies or sensitive skin?
Several cat wipes are sold as hypoallergenic, but the FDA has no definition for that word, and none of these makers promises a result. A cat with itchy, red or scabby skin needs a vet visit to find the cause. See what hypoallergenic means on a wipe.
How do I wipe a cat that hates it?
Keep it short, start where the cat tolerates touch and stop before it gets stressed. The step-by-step suggestions are further down this page.
